Antigravity Routines & Silks

AntiGravity Yoga is the perfect formula for a body/mind/spirit class that brings about awareness. All classes begin with a guided floating meditation focusing on the breath and ends with a levitating sivasana bringing both awareness and relaxation into the body simultaneously. After an antigravity yoga class you can expect to feel  lighter, refreshed, and your muscles will feel as though the have been thoroughly worked out. Antigravity yoga clients have commented that after their class they feel as though they have had a really great massage.

FAQ

Can anyone do antigravity yoga?

Anyone who has an open mind can participate in an  AntiGravity Yoga class. In our classes we often find that the mind is more of a hinderance on ability than physiological limitations.

We do however advise caution to those with the following conditions: pregnancy, glaucoma, recent Surgery (esp. shoulder, eyes, back, hips, hands or wrist), heart disease or very high or low blood pressure, easy onset vertigo, osteoporosis / bone weakness, recent head injury, cerebral sclerosis, propensity for fainting, carpal tunnel syndrome, severe arthritis, sinusitis or head cold, hiatal hernia, disc herniation or acute discogenic disease, recent stroke, Artificial hips, radiculitis (inflammation of nerve root in spine) ,severe muscle spasms, botox injections (within 6 hours).

 

What should i expect from my first antigravity yoga class?

In Antigravity Yoga, everyone leaves the class a feeling as though they have achieved a great workout! Since this is a class which makes room for the mind, body and breath there is no competition nor ego encouraged. Everyone works at their own pace.

Do i need to be physically fit or practice yoga to participate in an antigravity yoga class?

No you do not need any prior fitness experience to participate in an antigravity yoga class, you will however need an open mind. Some find Antigravity Yoga more accessible than the more traditional mat-based yoga as the hammock supports you in the poses.

What do I wear / bring to an antigravity yoga class?

Workout clothes that cover both the armpits and legs is best especially for beginners.  Tops: A little tighter is better so they do not get caught in the fabric. Bottoms: If wearing leggings, make certain they are opaque (not-see through). If wearing joggers/sweatpants tight around cuff of legs is better. Undergarments: Sports bra is needed for females and fitted bottoms for men, please keep in mind you will be upside down. No socks unless they are grippy and a water bottle to stay hydrated. PLEASE NO JEWELRY OR LEGGINGS WITH ZIPS  as they can cause our hammocks to tear.

Should I come to an Antigravity Yoga class on an empty stomach?

We recommend having something in the stomach so that you have energy to workout and to stave off dizziness, however, we do not recommend consuming a large meal. 

Will the antigravity yoga hammock hold me?

Yes, the AntiGravity Hammock is rated for well over 2,000 lbs. (9 Kn)(908kgs). Our rigging points have been placed by a professional contractor and certified by an engineer and are rated to hold at least 3,000 per set up.
