Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra is practiced in the shavasana position with the commitment not to sleep, not to move the body and simply follow the voice of the instructor. The aim is to bring you to a state of consciousness between wakefulness and sleep achieved by withdrawing from the senses and turning inwards to reach blissful relaxation.

Yoga Nidra is associated with alpha brain waves. this pattern of brain wave activity resembles that of someone who is very relaxed, yet awake. this activity helps to calm the autonomic nervous system, reduce stress, lessen anxiety and depression. It promotes creative thinking, better sleep, improved memory and waking mindfulness.

FAQ

What happens in Yoga Nidra?

During Yoga Nidra, you will enter a calming state for the mind and body through guided meditation. The practice creates physical and mental activities that change brain waves to release emotional tension, slow down the nervous system, and allow muscles to relax.

How is Yoga Nidra different than meditation?

Traditional meditation is most often experienced in the ‘waking state’, associated with the Beta and Alpha wave brain states. Yoga Nidra explores the deeper layers of Self, moving beyond the waking states into the more subtle layers of Self. meditation is most often experienced in the ‘waking state’, associated with the Beta and Alpha wave brain states. What chakras does Yoga Nidra target affect?

The practice will focus on balancing the Manipura Chakra which is our power center and where our ego resides. This chakra governs our energy level, will power and our sense of self.

Is yoga a Nidra spiritual?

On top of all of the wonderful spiritual transformation and psychological integration, Yoga Nidra is profoundly restful, 30minutes of rest in the nidra state is said to be approximately equivalent to 3 hours of normal sleep.

Is yoga nidra equivalent to sleep?

Sleep meditation can be very beneficial. However, it cannot replace sleep. Yoga Nidra for sleep may help you feel well-rested after a shorter duration and allow you to access a deeper state of relaxation, but it does not provide all of the same benefits as sleep. Quality sleep is needed to rejuvenate us.
